Croatia is the home of the popular dog breed Dalmatians. The breed dates back to the 17th century. The coast 'Dalmatia' is named after the breed.
Historians believe that neckties originated from Croatia since the Croats (Croatian military) first wore knotted neckties in the 1600s. We owe it to the Croatians why we look good in formal wear. And we also owe it them the pens we are now using. Croatian innovator, Slavoljub Penkala, invented the very first mechanical pencil. The name pen comes from his surname.
